Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has denied the pacer Taskin Ahmed the No-Objection Certificate to participate in the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Taskin, who is currently in South Africa for 3 ODIs and two Test matches against the Proteas, was approached by the Lucknow Super Giants to replace the injured pacer Mark Wood in the squad.
According to a report by Bangladesh website Kaler Kantha, LSG mentor Gautam Gambhir called in Dhaka on Sunday evening and proposed an IPL contract for the 26-year old pacer and kept a condition that he won’t take part in the two Test matches starting March 31.
“I want Bangladesh fast bowler Taskin Ahmed in the team and that is for the whole season. If he agrees to the offer, Taskin will have to leave for India before the next two Tests against South Africa,” the two-time IPL-winning captain Gambhir was quoted as saying by the website.
While the pacer was asked to communicate his decision by Monday, BCB has denied Taskin to participate in the tournament considering the two important overseas tours of the national side, the ongoing series against South Africa and the upcoming against India.
”Since we have two important series like the ongoing home tour of South Africa and the home series against India, we feel it won’t be right for him to take part in the IPL,” Cricbuzz quoted BCB cricket operations chairman Jalal Yunus as saying to the reporters on Monday.
LSG were dealt a huge blow even before this tart of their maiden season in the IPL when England pacer Mark Wood was ruled out of the whole tournament after sustaining an elbow injury during the first Test against West Indies in Antigua. They will be hoping that they are able to sign a replacement option in time before the start of their inaugural season in the T20 League.
