‘Injury Scare’ For England, Jos Buttler Doubtful For Australia T20 Series

England’s white-ball skipper, Jos Buttler is having a tough time as he is facing uncertainty over his participation against Australia in the upcoming T20I series.

Buttler was looking to make his return to cricket following his side’s semifinal defeat to India in the T20 World Cup 2024. He sustained a calf injury while training before the Hundred tournament.

Buttler was set to return to action for Lancashire this week, for their knockout game at Hove.

Lancashire coach Dale Benkenstein told BBC Radio Lancashire: ‘We’ve had some bad news on his recovery. He had an injury he was recovering from and he’s sort of tweaked it again. He’s not only just out of our T20s but I think he’s even struggling to make the international ones. He was very keen to play for us.’

It is suggested that the likes of Phil Salt and Sam Curran are frontrunners to lead the side if Buttler is unavailable.

England will play their opening T20I against Australia on September 11. It will be their first white-ball series after the departure of head coach Matthew Mott, who stepped down from the role following the T20 World Cup 2024 exit. Marcus Trescothick will take over as an interim head coach, while no permanent replacement has been named.
