Infosys Enforces WFH Policy: Employees Must Work On-Site 10 Days a Month or Face Leave Cuts

Infosys has mandated its workforce to comply with 10 days working-from-office rule with a view to bringing more people back to the campus. According to the Economic Times, in an email, functional heads at the Bengaluru headquartered company told their teammates about restricting the number of work-from-home days from March 10 onwards.

“To support this, starting March 10, 2025, system intervention will be implemented to limit the number of work-from-home days that can be applied each month. These measures are designed to ensure compliance with the new hybrid work requirements while maintaining flexibility for employees, “said the email, which ET has seen.

Infosys, which has about 323,000 employees on its roster, did not respond to an email seeking comment. The “system intervention”, as senior executives called it, as designed to ensure effective collaboration among teammates, while affording them flexibility, one of them said.

“As you know, our hybrid work model expects employees to work from the office for at least 10 days a month, or as per business requirements, whichever is higher, “the email added. Employees of Infosys punch their attendance using a mobile app, and WFH requests will no longer be approved “by default” henceforth and members have to compulsorily punch in for a minimum of 10 days a month at their respective office base, a senior employee told ET on the condition of anonymity.

This is more of a project requirement than the unit requirement, this one was added. The flexible work atmosphere is allowing them to save a whole lot of time due to commutes and fatigue they had to go through in traveling to the office, said one more employee. That could reduce efficiency for some of the employees, she added.

If a staff member were to fall short by a day or two from the work-from-office goal, such days would be counted against his or her leave balance, informants said. Its larger rival, Tata Consultancy Services, has tied its 5-day work-from-office policy to variable pay for its employees. On November 20, 2023, they have implemented a do-back-to-office policy, and ET reported, that the outsourcing giant earmarked few key weeks in a quarter as in-person collab weeks when all team members have to be in the office and collaborate with each other.
