In a big boost for the armed forces, an indigenously developed Long Range Bomb was successfully flight tested by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Indian Air Force (IAF) from an aerial platform on Friday.

The DRDO confirmed that the Long Range Bomb, released from IAF fighter aircraft, hit a land-based target at a long range with accuracy within specified limits.

All the mission objectives have been successfully met, DRDO said.

In recent years, the DRDO has been successfully developing defence equipments, including radars, missiles giving a boost to the Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan of the Modi government.

In August 2021, DRDO developed an Advanced Chaff Technology to safeguard fighter aircraft of the IAF against hostile radar threats. The Indian Air Force has started the process of induction of this technology after the completion of successful user trials.

In July 2021, DRDO developed an anti-drone system to neutralise enemy drone attack. “The Indigenous Drone Technology is capable of counter attacks including detection, Soft Kill (for jamming the communication links of Drone) and Hard Kill (Laser based hard kill to destroy the Drone) of enemy drones,” the ministry of defence had informed.

The Indian Army, Indian Navy and Air Force, in August 2021 signed contracts for acquiring DRDO-developed anti-drone systems.
