India witnessed growth in pharmaceutical export from 15 billion US dollar to 28 billion US dollar in FY24. Not only this, but the Biotechnology has also seen growth in 2024. It saw a 13 fold jump from USD 10 billion in 2014 to USD 130 billion in 2024. It aims to achieve the target of USD 300 billion by 2030.
In the year 2024, the country achieved a significant breakthrough, this include the development of Nafithromycin. Nafithromycin is the nations first antibiotic to tackle pneumonia and NexCAR 19. NexCAR 19 is the country’s first home-grown treatment for cancer.

At the world level India joined the Biopharmaceutical Alliance with the US, Japan, European Union and South Korea. This was done to tackle the drug supply challenges. The exports saw a rise by 30 folds.
