A day after reports emerged that the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) allegedly abducted 17-year-old Miram Taron of Arunachal Pradesh, the Indian Army on Thursday has contacted China to locate the youth and “return him as per the established protocol”.

“Regarding the incident of the missing youth named Miram Taron from Arunachal Pradesh, it is informed that on receipt of the information, the Indian Army immediately contacted the PLA through established mechanism of hotline informing that an individual, who was collecting herbs and hunting, has lost his way and cannot be found. Assistance from PLA has been sought to locate the individual on their side and return him as per established protocol,” defence ministry sources said today.

PLA allegedly abducted Miram Taron from Indian territory in Arunachal Pradesh’s Upper Siang district, the state’s MP Tapir Gao informed on Wednesday.

Gao claimed that the teenager was abducted by the Chinese PLA from Lungta Jor area in Siyungla on Tuesday.

“Chinese PLA has abducted Sh Miram Taron, 17 years of Zido vill. yesterday 18th Jan 2022 from inside Indian territory, Lungta Jor area (China built 3-4 kms road inside India in 2018) under Siyungla area (Bishing village) of Upper Siang dist, Arunachal Pradesh. His friend escaped from PLA and reported to the authorities. All the agencies of Govt of India are requested to step up for his early release,” Gao tweeted.

Taron’s friend Johny Yaiying managed to escape and immediately informed the respective authorities about the kidnapping, Gao told news agency PTI from Ziro, the district headquarters of Lower Subansiri district.

Both youths are local hunters and hail from Zido village.

Ninong Ering, MLA from Pasighat in Arunachal Pradesh, yesterday issued a request for the safe return of the Indian youth.

“Shocking!! CCP China’s PLA abducted innocent youth from Arunachal Pradesh yesterday (details in attached pic).@MEAIndia @HMOIndia should help in the safe return of the boy and #Chinese intrusion in our land must be checked,” Ering tweeted.
