Indian-American actress Padma Lakshmi says ‘sickening to see the violence against Muslims celebrated in India’

In the last couple of weeks, many have voiced their opinions on Twitter with respect to the communal tension and violence in the country. The latest addition is Padma Lakshmi, an Indian-American actress known for her performance in films like The Mistress of Spices starring Aishwarya Rai, Sharpe’s Challenge, and Boom starring Katrina Kaif, Amitabh Bachchan. She took to Twitter and condemned the violence against Muslims which is allegedly being celebrated in India.
In one of her many tweets, Lakshmi penned, “Sickening to see the violence against Muslims celebrated in India. The widespread anti-Muslim rhetoric preys on fear and poisons people. This propaganda is dangerous and nefarious because when you consider someone less than it’s much easier to participate in their oppression.”
She further appealed to “fellow Hindus” and added that their religion is facing no “threat”. A part of her tweet read, “Fellow Hindus, don’t succumb to this fear-mongering. There is no threat to Hinduism in India or anywhere else. True spirituality doesn’t include any room for sowing hatred of any kind.”
Towards the end, she added that people in India should respect people of all faiths and live in peace with one another. Lakshmi also shared a couple of articles by international publications on communal violence in India and urged her followers to read the same.
On the work front, she was last seen in Taste the Nation with Padma Lakshmi, a food and travel docuseries where she covered parts of the United States and introduced her viewers to different cuisines and cultures. The second season of the show was released in November 2021.
She also made a guest-expert appearance on Getting Curious With Jonathan Van Ness, a Netflix show where the host interviewed experts from different fields like gender, food, beauty and so much more. For the unversed, Lakshmi is also a celebrated chef, an author and a model.
