India Storms Into Ninth Women’s Asia Cup Final With Win Over Bangladesh

Pacer Renuka Singh’s early three-wicket burst and Smriti Mandhana‘s rapid fifty propelled India to a commanding 10-wicket victory over Bangladesh on July 26, securing their place in the ninth Women’s Asia Cup final in Dambulla.

Defending champions India will face the winner of the second semifinal between Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the title clash on July 28.

From the outset, Mandhana (55 not out, 39b, 9×4, 1×6) and Shafali Verma (26 not out, 28b, 2×4) led India’s chase, effortlessly reaching the target of 81 in just 11 overs. Their innings featured stylish shots, with Mandhana driving elegantly and Shafali hitting powerful strokes. Mandhana also demonstrated her power with a six off pacer Jahanara Alam.

India’s bowlers delivered a stellar performance, with Renuka Singh (3/10) and left-arm spinner Radha Yadav (3/14) dismantling Bangladesh’s batting. Renuka struck early, dismissing Dilara Akter and Ishma Tanjim in her first two overs, and later added Murshida Khatun to her tally. Bangladesh, reeling at 25 for three in the Power Play, struggled to recover. Skipper Nigar Sultana (32, 51b, 2×4) fought bravely but lacked support as Indian bowlers maintained tight control.

India’s improved fielding also played a crucial role, with Shafali impressing with a standout catch to dismiss Rabeya Khan. Despite a late partnership of 36 runs for the seventh wicket between Sultana and Shorna Akter (19 not out, 18b, 2×4), it was too late to alter the match’s outcome.
