India Lodges Protest Over Canada’s ‘Absurd, Baseless’ Remark Against Amit Shah

Relations between both the countries have soured following the allegation from top officials of Canada on Union Home Minister of India Amit Shah of having a campaign of “violence and targeting Sikh separatist inside Canada”. In response to the allegations Government of India, summoned the country’s diplomat to protest the “baseless” remark made by their minister before the parliamentary panel.

 

Indian Government also protested audio and Visual surveillance of consular officials in Canada mentioning that such actions only aggravate the situation and are against the diplomatic norms.

The foreign ministry spokesperson stated that Canada hasn’t provided any evidence over its claim on the involvement of India in attack on its nationals. The ministry stated that a diplomatic note was handed over to the Canadian high commission representative here over their hearing on 29th October in which deputy foreign minister David Morrison alleged Union Home Minister Amit Shah has authorized the attacks.

The tension escalated as the Canadian National security and intelligence advisor Drouin and Deputy foreign affairs minister David Morrison told parliamentary committee that they leaked detains of Union Home Minister of India Amit Shah’s role in targeting Sikh to the media.

Indian expressed their disapproval over the remark. And mentioned the remark as “absurd and baseless”.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal Comment Over India-Canada Diplomatic Tension

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that Indian diplomatic and consular personnel are already functioning in environment of violence. “This action of Canadian Government aggravates the situation” he said.

They presented the diplomatic note in which they mentioned that “Government of India protests in strongest term to the absurd and baseless reference made to Union Home Minister of India before the committee by Deputy Minister David Morrison”.

MEA said that they are monitoring the wellbeing of students and workers from India who are currently staying in Canada. Canada has only four immigration officials in the country.
