In a historic stride towards fulfilling Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ambition for India to host the Olympics, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has officially submitted a Letter of Intent to the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) Future Host Commission. This move formally signals India’s intention to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2036, a milestone that could bring transformative benefits to the nation.

Potential Impact of Hosting the Olympics in India

A source revealed that securing the 2036 Games could drive substantial economic growth, social development, and youth empowerment across the country. Hosting this global event promises to elevate India’s sports infrastructure, bolster tourism, and inspire a new generation of athletes, creating a legacy for future generations.

India’s Preparations: Learning from the Best

Prime Minister Modi has been vocal about his commitment to hosting the Olympics. During the recent Independence Day celebrations, he invited insights from Indian athletes who competed in the Paris Olympics. Modi stressed the importance of gathering feedback on their experiences, aiming to refine India’s preparations for 2036 by addressing any potential oversights in advance.

“Input from athletes who have played in previous Olympics is very important. We want to document this and share it with the government so that we don’t miss out on any small details,” PM Modi shared.

Support from the IOC and Strong International Competition

At the IOC’s 141st session in Mumbai, PM Modi made a strong case for India’s bid, stating that the country’s dedication to hosting the Olympics is unwavering. IOC President Thomas Bach has also shown support, noting a “strong case” for India as a host country. India faces competition from nine other nations, including Mexico, Indonesia, Turkey, and South Korea, all undergoing a rigorous selection process led by the IOC’s Future Host Commission.

Path to Realizing India’s Olympic Dream

With Los Angeles hosting the 2028 Olympics and Brisbane in 2032, India’s bid for the 2036 Olympics represents a unique opportunity to put the nation firmly on the global sports map. Hosting the Olympics would be a landmark moment, fulfilling the aspirations of 1.4 billion Indians and advancing India’s global sporting stature.
