Australia Women won the first ODI of their three-match series in Albion against India Women by five wickets. Chasing a target of 101 runs, Australia reached 102/5 in 16.2 overs, where debutant Georgia Voll was the star of the game. Voll remained unbeaten on 46* off 42 balls, taking her team to a comfortable win.

Renuka Thakur Shines With The Ball, But India Falter With The Bat

India’s bowlers fought hard, with Renuka Thakur claiming three wickets. However, their efforts were not enough to prevent Australia from chasing down the modest target. India’s batting, on the other hand, struggled, and they were dismissed for just 100 runs in 34.2 overs. Jemimah Rodrigues was the top scorer for India, managing only 23 runs off 42 balls.

Megan Schutt’s Maiden Fifer Dismisses India

Megan Schutt took her maiden five-wicket haul, as India’s batting lineup was under pressure. Her spell was brilliant enough for Australia to limit India below par, setting up a chase that wasn’t that tough.

Harmanpreet Kaur Reflects On The Loss

After the match, India’s captain Harmanpreet Kaur addressed the team’s performance. She acknowledged the team’s strong bowling effort, despite the small target. “We believed our bowlers could take wickets, and they did manage to take five. However, in batting, while some of us got starts, we couldn’t convert them into bigger scores. These are areas we need to reflect on—especially partnerships and setting a good total on the board,” she said.

Harmanpreet also mentioned the team’s plans for the upcoming games: “It was our first game here, and now we have a better understanding of how the pitch will play. We’ll be playing on the same pitch next time, and we have a clear idea of what to expect. We’ll discuss these things in our team meeting and come out with a positive approach in the next match.”
