Ind vs WI: Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer cleared to train after testing negative but doubtful for 2nd ODI – Report

After KL Rahul, Mayank Agarwal and pacer Navdeep Saini joined the Team India squad on Monday, the duo of Shikhar Dhawan and Shreyas Iyer has recovered from their respective bouts with COVID-19, in good news for the home side on two successive days.

Dhawan and Iyer were among 7 members of the Indian contingent including 4 players to test positive for COVID-19  before the series against West Indies began while the remaining three were part of the support staff.

The duo has been cleared for light training by the medical team, however, their participation in the second ODI remains doubtful as the team management doesn’t want to rush them to play the game.

Speaking to Sportstar, a BCCI source said, “Both of them (Shreyas and Shikhar) are allowed to light training as per the protocol. However, the medical team will monitor them before a decision is taken about their availability.”

After the report of several members testing positive came, Agarwal was added to the squad. However, he was still in quarantine when the two teams met on Sunday in the first game at the Narendra Modi Stadium and Ishan Kishan, who is with the squad for the T20Is, was added to the ODIs and opened with skipper Rohit Sharma.

Speaking to the press on the eve of the match, Suryakumar Yadav said that the team was happy with the return of Rahul and Mayank and it will be up to the management to decide the final playing XI. “Their (Mayank and Rahul) coming back after quarantine makes our unit stronger. At the end of the day, it is the team management’s call as to who will play or not. We are really happy to have them back,” Yadav said.

The Men in Blue will look to seal the series on Wednesday, after winning the first match comfortably by 6 wickets.
