Team India maintained their unbeaten home streak in the ongoing home season as they swept away all four series after the South Africa tour. The Rohit Sharma-led side beat West Indies (3-0 in ODIs and 3-0 in T20Is) and Sri Lanka (3-0 in T20Is and 2-0 in Tests) across all three formats to complete a highly successful international summer ahead of the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League.
This being Rohit’s first season as full-time captain in all three formats, the Indian team produced some of the most exhilarating cricket in the last couple of months, especially in the recently concluded two-match Test series against the Islanders.
After a heartbreaking series defeat against South Africa, the Indian team had to come back strongly in the longest format of the game and some tough decisions before the series in terms of selection seem to have paid dividends for the side.
Hanuma Vihari and Shreyas Iyer replaced the likes of Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara in the side as Team India move towards transition in the whites and both showed the promise of what is to come. While Vihari scored 124 runs in three innings, including a half-century in the first innings in Mohali, Shreyas Iyer- came into his own with knocks of 92 and 67 in the pink-ball game in Bengaluru.
Not just these two, the RRR of the Indian team — Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Rishabh Pant — too had a magnificent time both with the bat and in the field.
India had slipped to the fifth position after two consecutive losses against South Africa in the World Test Championship (WTC) points table. With two wins in a row, Rohit & Co. have moved up by one place as Sri Lanka slipped to the fifth spot from first.
Australia and Pakistan still lead the pack and the former could increase their points percentage in Karachi as they have set a daunting total of 506 runs to chase for the hosts.
Here’s a look at the updated WTC points table:
