IND Vs NZ: Sourav Ganguly Gives Big Statement On Rohit Sharma’s Retirement, Says ‘Why Is There…

Former India cricketer Sourav Ganguly has dismissed rumors about Rohit Sharma’s possible retirement from ODI cricket after the Champions Trophy 2025 final against New Zealand in Dubai on Sunday. The rumours about 37-year-old’s future in white-ball cricket are still strong and Ganguly feels Rohit has a lot to give and supported him to play until the 2027 ODI World Cup.

Rohit Sharma’s Future In ODIs

Ahead of the eagerly awaited final at the Dubai International Stadium, debate surrounding Rohit’s future has gained momentum. Most people feel that, after he retired from T20I cricket following India’s World Cup title win in 2024, he may also tread the same path in the ODI format. But in a conversation with India Today, Ganguly rejected such rumors and rather accused chief selector Ajit Agarkar, saying that ultimately the call has to be taken by the selection committee. Ganguly is firm in his conviction that Rohit can captain India in another ICC tournament, dispelling the ongoing retirement rumors.

What Did Sourav Ganguly Say On Rohit Sharma’s Retirement?

“Why is there talk of Rohit Sharma’s retirement? Why is this even a question? He won the World Cup just a few months ago. I don’t know what the selectors are thinking, but Rohit is playing very well. India is far better than New Zealand. India played in the 2023 World Cup finals, won the 2024 T20 World Cup, and they are still unbeaten in this Champions Trophy. The same team will play,” Ganguly said.

After India’s T20 World Cup 2024 victory in Barbados, both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli retired from the shortest version of the game. Now, with another big final coming up, talks regarding Rohit’s possible ODI retirement have gained momentum. As per BCCI sources, a post-tournament meeting between Rohit and chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar will decide his fate.
