IND Vs AUS: ‘Needs To Do Exercise’ – Sunil Gavaskar Questions Rohit Sharma’s Fitness, Highlights THIS Issue With Indian Captain

Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has suggested that Rohit Sharma needs to do exercises to address ongoing footwork problems. On day 2 of the pink-ball Test, Rohit’s batting had again failed. He just scored 6 runs while batting at number 6. He gained only 9 runs across two innings as he returned disappointing. Notably, both of Rohit’s dismissals came when he was caught in the crease. He was caught in the first innings by Scott Boland and in the second by Pat Cummins.

Sunil Gavaskar Highlights Problem With Rohit Sharma’s Footwork

On Day 2, Rohit was also hit in front of the stumps by Mitchell Starc. That was a flaw in his footwork, but he got lucky as the delivery was declared a no-ball. Speaking to India Today after the day’s play, Gavaskar made a point that Rohit is not as sharp with the foot movement as he has been.

He suggested adding some warm-up exercises when batting to get his legs moving and improve circulation as well. The cricket legend states that Rohit has typically been a slow starter from the word go with respect to foot movement, which becomes more apparent with every passing year. Gavaskar suggested that a quick jog or run before facing the first delivery could get his feet into gear.

“The Older You Get, The More Pronounced It Becomes”

“I think the feet aren’t moving as they should. He needs to do a little bit of exercise before coming to the crease and try to get some circulation going in the legs. He has always been a slow starter as far as feet movement is concerned. It’s not just a recent problem. The older you get, the more pronounced it becomes. So, that is something maybe he needs to look to do. When he comes in to bat, maybe run in a little bit, so that the circulation is there. Do some jogging before you take the first ball,” said Gavaskar.

After Day 2, India is on the verge of a tough defeat as it has lost 5 wickets and is lagging behind Australia by 29 runs.
