In fresh proposal to farmers, Centre offers ‘immediate suspension’ of cases

In a fresh proposal to protesting farmers, the Centre on Wednesday reportedly offered “immediate suspension” of all cases against them, both in connection with the agitations against farm laws and over stubble burning.

The Centre’s revised proposal comes a day after it sent an offer to the farmers assuring that it will form a committee to look into the demand for legal guarantee on minimum support price (MSP) for crops.

The Centre also set a condition that farm unions should call off the protest for the withdrawal of fake cases against farmers.

Earlier today, a five-member panel of Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), which is spearheading the farmers’ stir against three farm laws, held a meeting in Delhi to discuss the Centre’s offer.

The committee is likely to hold meetings with Union ministers Amit Shah and Narendra Singh Tomar to discuss their pending farm-related issues later today.

The meetings with the two ministers are likely to be held hours before the scheduled meeting at 2 pm of the SKM.

The members of the SKM are scheduled to hold a crucial meeting at the Singhu Border this afternoon to decide the future course of action and the fate of agitation, which was triggered last year after the government enacted three farm laws.
