Returning in a big way to the ICC Test batting rankings is Rishabh Pant, who is back at No. 6 after missing nearly two years from the format, having suffered a serious car accident. His eye-catching shows for India in their 280-run victory over Bangladesh at Chennai, where he struck an explosive 109 off just 128 balls, earned him 731 rating points.

Key Movers In The Rankings

Along with Pant, Yashaswi Jaiswal too has moved up in the list. Earlier at sixth, he jumped to the fifth position with his innings of 56, and with that his points shot up to 751. Joe Root remains at the top of the table with 899 points while Kane Williamson gains the second position with 852 points. Daryl Mitchell at 760 points and Steven Smith at 757 points are only ahead of Jaiswal.

For Chennai, it was Rohit Sharma’s turning bad as he slipped to No. 10 in the list from No. 5 after managing just 6 and 5 runs. Now he is four points above Babar Azam, who is on No. 11. Virat Kohli slipped to No. 12 after a score of 6 and 17. Shubman Gill moved up by five places to No. 14 after scoring 119 not out in the second innings.

Bowling Rankings Update

Prabath Jayasuriya, of Sri Lanka, has been making waves in bowling rankings after an unbeaten stint in Galle where he took 4 for 136 and 5 for 68, getting him the award for Player-of-the-Match. His endeavour pushed him up five points to No. 8.

The bowling rankings are largely dominated by Indian and Australian players. R Ashwin remains at No. 1, while Jasprit Bumrah finds himself just behind at No. 2. Other important bowlers are Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins, Kagiso Rabada, Ravindra Jadeja at No. 6, and Nathan Lyon at No. 7.

Kamindu Mendis, who pocketed 114 runs in the first innings against New Zealand, shot up three places to reach No. 16 in batting rankings.
