Inter Milan playmaker Christian Eriksen suddenly collapsed during Denmark’s Group B game against Finland in the ongoing UEFA Euro 2020 last week. Eriksen’s sudden collapse sent shockwaves through the footballing world as the entire sports fraternity came in unison to wish the Denmark midfielder a speedy recovery. Days after the tragic incident, Eriksen has reportedly shared his first public message following Finland’s 1-0 win over Denmark at the Euro 2020.

The Inter Milan star collapsed in the 43rd minute of Denmark’s UEFA Euro 2020 opener against Finland contested at the Parken Stadium in Copenhagen. The former Tottenham Hotspur star was administered Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) by the medical staff and the Euro encounter between the two teams was temporarily suspended after the player collapsed on the pitch. On Monday, it was reported that Eriksen has spoken publicly about the tragic incident that left every sports fan horror-struck.

‘I won’t give up. I feel better now’

According to The Mirror, Eriksen has opened up about suffering a cardiac arrest during Denmark’s Euro 2020 game against Finland. Eriksen has revealed that he is now feeling better now and the star footballer is anxious about finding the cause of his cardiac arrest. “Thank you, I won’t give up. I feel better now – but I want to understand what’s happened,” he said.”I want to say thank you all for what you did for me,” he added.

Eriksen’s remarks have come after Denmark team doctor Morten Boesen had confirmed that the Danish playmaker suffered a cardiac arrest and the player was “gone” before being resuscitated. In a press conference, Boesen said that there was no explanation for what occurred on the pitch. “He was gone, and we did cardiac resuscitation, and it was cardiac arrest,” Boesen was quoted as saying.

On Monday, Eriksen’s agent also asserted that the Denmark international is in “good spirits”. “We spoke this morning (Sunday). He was joking, and in good spirits, I found him well,” Martin Schoots was quoted as saying by Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport. “We all want to find out what happened, him included. The doctors are conducting detailed tests, it’ll take time,” he added.
