‘I Settled It Through Trade’: Donald Trump Reiterates Role In India-Pakistan Ceasefire, Says PM Modi Is…

United States President Donald Trump  reiterated that he facilitated the cessation of hostilities between India and Pakistan. He asserted that that he was able to broker the de-escalation through trade negotiations. Trump stated this during his meeting with President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa. During his conversation with Ramaphosa, Trump announced that US is doing a big deal with India and as well as Pakistan on trade front. The conflict between India and Pakistan had intensified after India carried out Operation Sindoor in response to the Pahalgam Terror Attack on May 7.

He remarked that as the Indo-Pak conflict was getting intense, he spoke to the leadership of both countries and got the matter “settled.”

“If you take a look at what we just did with Pakistan and India, we settled that whole thing, and I think I settled it through trade. We’re doing a big deal with India. We’re doing a big deal with Pakistan… You know somebody had to be the last one to shoot, but the shooting was getting worse and worse, bigger and bigger, deeper and deeper into the country,” Trump said.

Trump Calls PM Modi A ‘Great Guy’

Trump also highlighted his equation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and called him a “Great Guy” once again. He asserted that “India is his friend.” However, it’s important to note that Trump also took a moment to appreciate the leadership of Pakistan.

“We spoke to them and…we got it settled, and then two days later something happened, and they said it was Trump’s fault, but Pakistan has some excellent people and some really good leaders and India is my friend… Modi, he’s a great guy,” Trump added.

Notably, the US President had announced the understating of ceasefire reached between India and Pakistan much earlier than India officially declared it. On May 10, he had posted on X, “After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE. Congratulations to both Countries on using Common Sense and Great Intelligence. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
