Automobile major Hyundai has expressed its “unparalleled commitment” towards India after a massive backlash in social media after a dealer of the carmaker in Pakistan posted a controversial message supporting separatists in Kashmir.
“Hyundai MotorIndia has been committed to the Indian market for more than 25 years now and we stand firmly for our strong ethos of respecting nationalism,” it said.
The company further said, “The unsolicited social media post linking Hyundai Motor India is offending our unparalleled commitment and service to this great country.”
Emphasising India is second home to the Hyundai brand, the company said: “We have a zero-tolerance policy towards insensitive communication and we strongly condemn any such view.”
“As part of our commitment to India, we will continue our efforts towards the betterment of the country as well as its citizens,” the carmaker said in a statement.
The auto major further mentioned that it strongly condemns the view expressed by the Pakistan handle.
Worth mentioning here is that in a controversial post marking the “Kashmir solidarity day”, which is which is observed by Pakistan on February 5, the company’s dealer in Pakistan shared messages on social media over Kashmir, expressing support for the separatist movement in Kashmir.
Irked by the social media posts, many Indians took to social media to call for the boycott of the South Korea-based car company on Twitter.
The Indian subsidiary of the Korean carmaker is the second-largest player in the country after Maruti Suzuki India. Currently, it sells 12 models including Creta and Venue in the domestic market.
In December 2021, Hyundai Motor announced plans to pump in about Rs 4,000 crore into research and development over the next seven years as it all set to launch six new electric vehicles in India by 2028. Also, it is activeley considering making India a global production hub for electric cars.
