Recalling India’s triumphant run in the inaugural edition of the ICC World T20,  veteran Indian opener Rohit Sharma has vowed to repeat history in the 2021 installment of the T20 World Cup. One of the finest batsmen in the history of white-ball cricket, vice-captain Rohit will be leading Team India’s charge at the grandest stages of them all – the 2021 ICC World T20.

The upcoming edition of the T20 World Cup is scheduled to get underway from October 17 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Oman. Taking to Instagram amid the second leg of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 on Wednesday, Rohit spoke at length about India’s quest for its second T20 World Cup title in the UAE and Oman spectacle. Under the leadership of MS Dhoni, Team India had won the inaugural edition of ICC World T20 in 2007.

“Sep 24th, 2007, Johannesburg. The day when a billion dreams came true. Who would have thought back then that a relatively inexperienced, young team like ours would end up creating history!! It’s been 14 years since, we’ve come a long way, we’ve created many more histories, we’ve had our setbacks, we struggled, but it didn’t break our spirits. Because we never give up. We give it all!!!,” Rohit said in his lengthy post on the photo and video sharing platform.

A young Rohit was an integral part of Dhoni’s young Team India side that scripted history in the 2007 World Cup hosted by South Africa. Nicknamed Hitman for his explosive batting style, the Indian vice-captain said that Team India will leave no stone unturned to rewrite history in the 2021 World Cup. “This @icc #T20WorldCup each one of us is going to give everything to repeat history. We’re coming for it. India, let’s make it happen. I am #InItToWinIt,” Rohit added.

Rohit’s post soon became the talk of the town on the internet. Rohit’s 2007 WC throwback post has already garnered over 700k likes on the Facebook-owned platform. Currently leading the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the second leg of the IPL 2021, Rohit will spearhead India’s formidable batting order alongside skipper Virat Kohli. Rohit has amassed 2,864 runs in 111 T20Is for the 2007 champions.
