His Pakistan counterpart in attendance, NSA Ajit Doval bats for action against Pak-based terror outfits at SCO

In an embarrassing situation for Pakistan, India’s National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval, on Thursday proposed a plan against Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish e Mohammed (JeM) as a part of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) framework. Speaking at the SCO summit in Dushanbe in Tajikistan, Doval called for a need to adopt international standards to counter terror financing by weaving an MoU between SCO and Financial Action Task Force (FATF).

The appeal came at a time when the FATF plenary is meeting in Paris to take a decision on Pakistan’s inclusion/ exclusion from the Grey List for terror financing, and more importantly, in presence of Doval’s Pakistani counterpart Moeed Yusuf participating in SCO.

Doval’s indirect attack on Pakistan

“Perpetrators of terrorism including cross-border terror attacks should be expeditiously brought to justice,” he said, news agency ANI quoted.

Doval also called for the need to take actions against UN-designated terrorists and terror outfits. “Need to monitor new technologies used by terrorists including drones for smuggling of weapons and misuse of the dark web, artificial intelligence, blockchain and social media,” NSA Doval said.

This is the latest in India’s push against terrorism emanating from Pakistan. New Delhi has vehemently batted for sanctions against non-state actors operating out of Pakistan soil. Last week, Pakistan banned 88 terrorists including Hafiz Saeed, Masood Azhar and Dawood Ibrahim in a bid to achieve compliance with the list issued by the United Nations Security Council and come out of the FATF grey list which has adversely affected that country’s prospects to get funds from world agencies.
