West Indies had a forgettable tour of India as they were whitewashed in both the ODI and T20I series against the Men in Blue. The visitors barely gave a fight in the 50-over series which was held in Ahmedabad but did come close to winning the second and third T20Is at Kolkata. However, they fell short and had to head home without even a single victory to their name.
One of the biggest disappointments of the tour for them was the performances of skipper Kieron Pollard. The explosive batter was dismissed for a duck in the first ODI before missing the second and third game due to an injury. As far as T20Is goes, he managed only 32 runs in three games with the bat. He failed to take a single wicket in either format too.
Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra was critical of Pollard’s showing in the series and claimed he did not look interested at all. He further explained that the 34-year-old looks a much better player while playing for Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Chopra reckons this is a recurring theme with Pollard while playing international cricket.
Talking on his youtube channel, Chopra said, “Kieron Pollard – it seemed he is not interested at all. He is not bowling and when he comes to bat, he doesn’t look the same player. He looks much better for the Mumbai Indians.”
“Honestly, when you see him play for the West Indies, he looks half the player, whether you talk about the T20 World Cup or here, whether you talk about him not bowling or his field placements as a captain. It just does not inspire any confidence whatsoever,” he added.
Under the leadership of Pollard, West Indies have had a tough time off late as they were knocked out in the group stage of the 2021 Men’s T20 World Cup while losing a home ODI series to Ireland later. Before coming to India, they beat England in a closely fought 5-match T20I series at home.
