HDFC Credit Card Benefits Revamped From July 1: Major Changes In Lounge Access, Rewards, And More

HDFC Bank customers will see significant changes to their credit card rules from July 1. The bank has made some major changes to its card rules. HDFC Bank has announced changes that will affect customers who use its credit cards to access airport lounges. Starting from July 1, 2025, the bank will also introduce additional charges on several types of credit card transactions. These updates are important for cardholders to understand so they don’t miss out on benefits or get surprised by new fees.

This change is part of a larger trend in India where banks are reviewing their credit card reward systems due to increasing costs and regulatory pressure. HDFC, the country’s largest private sector bank, had earlier attracted many customers by offering generous benefits like free airport lounge access and attractive reward programs. However, the bank is now introducing a more controlled and limited benefits structure. Following are the changes which will be impacted for the credit card customers from July 1.

New Charges From July 2025

1% fee on rent payments, capped at ₹4,999 per month.

1% fee on wallet top-ups (excluding PayZapp) for amounts above ₹10,000.

1% fee on online gaming spends beyond ₹10,000 per month, also capped at ₹4,999.

These charges may affect users who rely on their HDFC credit cards for regular digital payments like rent or gaming.

PayZapp, HDFC’s own wallet, is exempt from the new charges — suggesting the bank is encouraging users to move toward its own ecosystem.

Starting July 2025, HDFC Bank will place a cap on the reward points you can earn from insurance payments. Here’s how the monthly limits will look:

  • Infinia and Infinia Metal Edition: up to 10,000 points
  • Diners Black, H.O.G Diners Club, BizBlack Metal: up to 5,000 points
  • All other eligible cards: up to 2,000 points
  • All other HDFC Bank credit cards will have a limit of 2,000 reward points per month for insurance-related purchases.

Interestingly, the Marriott Bonvoy HDFC Bank Credit Card will not be affected by this cap. This move suggests that HDFC is still keen on offering full rewards to premium, travel-focused cardholders.

According to HDFC’s terms: “From December 20, 2019, a maximum of Rs 5,000 (for some cards) and Rs 2,000 (for other cards) reward points were available in a day on insurance transactions. This rule is valid till 30 June 2025.”
