‘HazleGod’ Takes Off In India As Josh Hazlewood Shines Ahead Of WTC Final At Lord’s

Mitchell Starc was amused upon discovering that Josh Hazlewood had received a nickname of ‘HazleGod’. The new nickname comes from fans who watched the pacer’s performances. Australia is now setting its sights on the World Test Championship (WTC) final match against South Africa that will be held at the Lord’s Cricket Ground from June 11. Just before the main series, the media wanted to hear Hazlewood’s opinion on his new nickname in India. Eden Hazard stated that being referred to as ‘HazleGod’ is nice, but he doesn’t believe this nickname will last for long in Australia.

Mitchell Starc’s Statement

“Yeah, hopefully, it runs out of steam pretty quickly. It’s flattering, obviously, to hear it around the grounds in India, but I don’t think it’ll take off in Australia,” said Hazlewood in a video posted on the official Instagram handle of ICC.

“Hopefully, it sticks because I don’t think he likes it too much. He’s had a fantastic few months, the big fella over in India, and he’s come home with bags of cash. So I look forward to seeing him in action here at Lord’s,” said Starc.

“HazleGod, he actually referred to himself as it the other day, which totally took me back by surprise,” said Lyon.

“Off the back of him winning the IPL, I think he’s running with it,” he added.

Josh Hazlewood’s Performance In IPL 2025

Josh Hazlewood pleased many with his impressive performances in the bowling department in IPL 2025, taking part in 12 matches. With 22 wickets, he remained a reliable bowler for his side as he conceded 386 runs. The fact that Hazlewood had an economy rate of 8.77 showed how well he could stop batsmen during tense periods. Mitchell’s involvement in bowling gave the team balance and strength, mainly in the early stages and last overs. Due to his precise line and length, Hazlewood usually disrupted important partnerships and kept pushing the rivals. The offensive line helped its team win many important games in 2022.
