Wriddhiman Saha shocked the cricket fraternity on Saturday evening by sharing a disturbing screenshot of a personal chat showing an unnamed journalist threatening him. This incident occurred after Saha was dropped from the Indian team for the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka.

Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh has jumped to Saha’s defense and urged the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to protect players. Harbhajan tagged top office-bearers of the BCCI such as Jay Shah, Sourav Ganguly, and Arun Thakur while replying to Saha’s explosive tweet.

Harbhajan wrote, “Wridhi you just name the person so that the cricket community knows who operates like this. Else even the good ones will be put under suspicion.. What kind of journalism is this ? @BCCI @Wriddhipops @JayShah @SGanguly99 @ThakurArunS. players should be protected.”

Earlier in the day, legendary Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag also offered Saha his full support. Sehwag had used some strong words to describe the person under the scanner for sending Saha such messages.

After his axing from the Indian team, Saha was left unimpressed with the decision. In the aftermath of the squad announcement by the Chetan Sharma-led selection committee, the 37-year-old revealed that coach Rahul Dravid informed him after the South Africa series that they are looking for youngsters and asked him to contemplate retirement. He further explained that chief selector Chetan Sharma called him and let him know that he will not be considered for selection from the Sri Lanka series.

KS Bharat, who is yet to make his international debut is set to become Rishabh Pant’s deputy in the longest format of the game. Although Bharat is yet to play for India in any format, he had impressed with his wicket-keeping abilities in the first Test against New Zealand last year in Kanpur. He had to take the field as a substitute for Saha who was injured
