Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday informed that half of Delhi’s population above 18 years of age have been jabbed with at least one dose of vaccine against COVID-19 infection so far.

The Delhi chief minister announced that a little over one crore doses of the COVID vaccine have been administered to people in the national capital, With this, Delhi has covered its 50 per cent of the population above 18 years with at least one dose.  

“A little over 1 crore doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered to people in Delhi so far. The milestone was reached today. These have been administered to around 74 lakh people – 26 lakh received both doses while the remaining received a single dose,” said the Delhi chief minister.

“Out of the 2 crores (approx) population of Delhi, 1.5 crore people are over 18 years of age and eligible for vaccination. So, out of 1.5 crore people around 74 lakh people have received at least one dose. This is 50 per cent of the population,” he added.

Delhi sees drop in daily COVID infections

Continuing its downward trend, Delhi has recorded as many as 58 new COVID-19 cases and one death in the last 24 hours. The single new fatality pushed the death toll in the city to 25,053, according to the latest bulletin.

The drop in daily infections slightly decreased the positivity rate to 0.08 per cent, according to data shared by the health department here.

Delhi had faced an unprecedented second COVID wave with a shortage of beds and oxygen adding to the woes of the citizens in the national capital.

Since April 19, both daily cases and single-day death count had been spiralling up, with over 28,000 cases and 277 deaths recorded on April 20; rising to 306 fatalities on April 22. On May 3, the city had registered a record 448 deaths, according to official data.
