‘Had expected I would get at least 7 cr’: Avesh Khan on scripting IPL auction history by joining Lucknow for Rs 10 cr

Indian pacer Avesh Khan created history in the recently concluded edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction by joining KL Rahul’s Lucknow Super Giants for a record fee. Released by Delhi Capitals (DC) in the build-up to the mega auction for the new season, pacer Avesh was listed at his base price of INR 20 lakh. Rahul’s Super Giants won the bidding war for the uncapped pacer as Avesh joined forces with Mark Wood at the Lucknow franchise.

Pacer Avesh was earlier named in India’s white-ball squad for the bilateral series against the West Indies. Team India is scheduled to play the West Indies in the three-match series at the Eden Gardens. Interestingly, Avesh was on a flight when the former Delhi Capitals’ name appeared in the uncapped pacers’ set at the mega auction. Pacer Avesh revealed that he didn’t watch the auction live.

However, Avesh admitted that he was expecting to join his next IPL team for a staggering sum of INR 7 crore. Speaking to Sportskeeda after joining the Lucknow franchise, Avesh said that he was a bit nervous about the bidding process at the mega auction. “I was on the flight at that time and I had expected I would get at least 7 crore. But since I was on the flight and couldn’t watch the auction live, I was feeling a bit nervous thinking which team would pick me and for how much,” Avesh said.

Avesh was crowned as the most expensive uncapped Indian player in the history of the IPL auction by Lucknow Super Giants. The Rahul-led Lucknow franchise has acquired the services of Avesh for a whopping sum of INR 10 crore. Lucknow defeated Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad to win the bidding war for Avesh at the mega auction. “Upon landing when I got to know that Lucknow bought me for 10 crore, I froze for five seconds. But then things became normal, I was like okay,” Avesh added.
