GV Prakash has established himself as one of the most popular music composers and singers, especially in South Indian cinema. For the unversed, his mother AR Reihana is also a renowned playback singer and his uncle AR Rahman is a Academy Award winner and one of the most successful singer-composers. In an exclusive chat with News24, GV Prakash talks about how he made a successful career away from AR Rahman’s shadow and his career transition to acting.

GV Prakash, while talking to us, recalls how AR Rahman praised him for his work on Captain Miller. He tells us, “I was working with AR Rahman sir but of course, I wanted to branch out and do something on my own so he would also be proud of me. So I’ve always tried to create a workflow for myself, a total amount of work of mine that will be appreciated for my own style and music.”

He adds, “That was what I was working on and that’s how I had to branch out from Rahman sir’s style. But he’s happy and proud of me. He sometimes calls me and praises me. For Captain Miller’s music, he called me and told me I did really well. I feel very happy when he calls me and wishes me well.”

Over the year, GV Prakash has also made a name for himself in the acting world. He also recalls how filmmaker AR Murugadoss called him to act in a film and that’s how his acting career started. He shares, “First, I wanted to do a lot of albums where I could star by myself. Suddenly there were posters of a few films which carried my image because I was doing the music. Seeing that A.R. Murugadoss called me to act in one of his production house films, that’s how I got into it. Once the announcement came, then a lot of films came up. My first film was ‘Darling’ which was released on Pongal Sankranti and was a blockbuster. Now, I have almost done 25 films. Kingston is my 25th film.”

The Kingston star recently found success for his stellar work in the blockbuster films ‘Lucky Baskhar’ and ‘Amaran’. He says, “Lucky Baskhar and Amaran worked really well for me. Both are different films. One film is about a scam and the other one is about war and love. So both the films worked wonders at the box office and music. So I’m really happy that last year these two films happened on the same day for me.”

On the work front, GV Prakash also teamed up with Kangana Ranaut for her film ‘Emergency’ and composed songs for the movie.
