Gurugram Police Detains 10 illegal Bangladeshi Immigrants, Detained For Deportation

The Gurugram Police  detained ten Bangladeshi nationals for allegedly residing illegally in the city. According to police officials, documents recovered during the detention confirmed their Bangladeshi identity.

Sandeep Kumar, PRO, Gurugram Police, said, “Ten illegal Bangladeshi immigrants have been detained. Bangladeshi documents have been recovered from them. The process to deport them has begun.”

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Saturday condemned the detention of Bengali-speaking Muslim citizens across the country. He further stated that labelling them as illegal and targeting them is unfair, as they belong to a marginalised group and cannot raise their voices against police atrocities.

He also mentioned reports of Indian citizens being pushed into Bangladesh at gunpoint.

“Police in different parts of India have been illegally detaining Bengali-speaking Muslim citizens and accusing them of being Bangladeshi. There have been disturbing reports of Indian citizens being pushed into Bangladesh at gunpoint. This government acts strongly with the weak and weak with the strong. Most of those who are accused of being ‘illegal immigrants’ are the poorest of the poor: slum-dwellers, cleaners, domestic workers, rag-pickers, etc. They have been targeted repeatedly because they are not in a position to challenge police atrocities,” the AIMIM chief posted on X.

“Police do not have the power to detain people just because they speak a particular language. These wide-net detentions are illegal,” he added.

Beyond this, Owaisi also shared an image of an order from the Office of the District Magistrate in Gurugram on his X account. According to him, the state government has issued a standard operating procedure for deporting Bangladeshi citizens and Rohingyas.
