‘Gross misuse of AI’: Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi writes to IT Minister on Grok sexualising women’s photos

Rajya Sabha Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi on Friday wrote a letter to Union Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, highlighting the misuse of the AI Grok feature on X, where it is being used to sexualise women’s photographs on social media. In the letter dated January 2, 2026, the Rajya Sabha MP said, “Men are using fake accounts to post women’s photos and pushing prompts to Grok to minimise their clothing and sexualise them.”

She shared the letter on X, expressing her concern, stating, “Have sought urgent attention and intervention of the Hon. IT Minister to address the increasing incidents of AI apps being prompted to sexualise and undress women through the unauthorised use of their images on social media. There have to be guardrails put in place by features such as Grok so that women’s dignity is not violated. Big tech firms need to take onus. And I wish men indulging in such behaviour were educated better at their homes and schools so as not to become such sick perverts in their adulthood.”

‘This is unacceptable’

Addressing the minister, Priyanka wrote, “I wanted to bring to your urgent attention and intervention a new trend that has emerged on social media, especially on X, involving the misuse of their AI Grok feature. Men are using fake accounts to post women’s photos and pushing prompts to Grok to minimise their clothing and sexualise them. This is not limited to sharing photos through fake accounts, but also targets women who post their own photos. This is unacceptable and a gross misuse of an AI function.”

‘TAKE IT DOWN Act’

According to a report published by News18, several nations are moving to place strict regulations on the misuse of AI tools with the intent to publish sexual, sleazy, explicit, or non-consensual content. The United States introduced a law in May 2025, the TAKE IT DOWN Act, targeting deepfakes and non-consensual content on social media platforms. The law directs platforms to remove such AI-driven content that is abusive in nature and imposes penalties on its creators.
