The Central government on Friday confirmed that more than 50 crore doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered to people across India so far.

The govt also announced that the COVID vaccine for children will be introduced soon as trials are underway.

While speaking to media, MoS Health Bharati Pravin Pawar said, “It is a matter of pride that vaccination numbers crossed the 50-crore mark. Through you (media), a message is being spread that vaccination is important in fight against Corona.”

“Govt has made continuous efforts to ensure that vaccines reach people,” she said

Talking about the production capacity in the country, Pawar said, “Initially, around 2.5 lakh vaccines were produced per day. Today it has increased to around 40 lakhs per day.”

She continued saying, “I think with this rise in the production capacity, we will be able to vaccinate people in an even better manner.”

When asked about the govt’s plans for COVID vaccine for children, the junior health minister confirmed that the Centre is making continuous efforts in this regard.

A vaccine is prepared on basis of efficacy, immunogenicity, and other parameters. Trials for the vaccine are underway keeping safety measures in mind.

“We are trying to introduce it soon,” she announced.
