Govt has no business to do business, reiterates PM Modi

The government has no business to do business as its primary work is to ensure food, shelter, toilets and such basic necessities to the poor, reiterated Prime Minister Narendra Modi in an exclusive interview with news agency ANI on Wednesday (February 9).

The PM further said: “The government’s job is to provide health facilities to the poor, make roads, and to think about the small farmers. This is my priority.”

Elaborating further, PM Modi said that if somebody calls this socialism, then he accepts it, mentioning that his party (Bharatiya Janata Party) trusts the people of the country and believes that the administration should make policies that help people grow.

“BJP is always involved in serving people. When in power, we work with the mantra of ‘sabka saath, sabka vikas‘”, the PM said, adding that his party believes in unity in diversity. Some political leaders, however, are now using the concept of diversity against each other for vested interests.

Talking about connectivity, the PM said: “The optical fibre network should reach every village in the country. We are putting all our efforts into that. We want the development of the entire country.”

The Prime Minister said the investigative agencies are acting against corrupt people and the government should be lauded for it. Coming down heavily on the opposition parties who have in the past linked action by probe agencies with the upcoming state assembly polls, he said these parties should agree for simultaneous elections and will then stop complaining.

“Corruption in India is affecting the country like termites. Haven’t people raised their voices against such people from time to time? If I do not do anything, will the people forgive me? Where ever the government gets information (about corruption) should it not take steps?, asked the Prime Minister.

Exuding confidence, PM Modi said that the BJP will form government in the five states where Assembly elections will be held—Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Goa, Uttarakhand and Manipur.
