Government takes over JeI-linked schools in Kashmir crackdown

n a decisive administrative action, the Jammu and Kashmir government on Saturday ordered the takeover of several schools allegedly linked to the banned Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) and its affiliate Falah-e-Aam Trust (FAT), placing them under direct official control.

The move targets institutions in north Kashmir’s Handwara sub-division, particularly in Kultoora, Pohrupeth, and Hanjishart areas of the Langate belt. Official sources described it as part of a broader crackdown on entities tied to the prohibited outfit, ensuring educational continuity while aligning operations with government standards.

Jammu and Kashmir Police teams swiftly executed the directive, arriving at the FAT-run schools in Kultoora and Hanjishart early Saturday morning. They facilitated a seamless handover to the civil administration, securing premises without interrupting classes or daily activities.

Authorities emphasized that the transition prioritizes student welfare, with plans underway for staff regularization, curriculum updates, and full administrative overhaul per official guidelines. No resistance was reported, and locals noted the process unfolded peacefully.

This development follows heightened scrutiny of JeI-linked networks in the Valley, signaling the government’s firm stance against banned organizations’ influence in education.
