A key link between India’s two most popular destinations ‘Mumbai to Goa Highway’ is currently undergoing significant transformation work. The 466-kilometer four-lane stretch is expected to be completed by May or June 2025, according to reports. Once completed, the journey which usually takes around 12 to 13 hours will be reduced to just 6 hours. Presently, the commuters drive at least 12 to 13 hours to reach Sindhudurg.

Key Details Of Mumbai-Goa Highway

After the highway is open to the public, it will link Panvel to Sindhudurg while passing through the picturesque regions of Raigad and Ratnagiri. The new highway project is jointly spearheaded by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the National Highway Public Works Department (NHPWD). It aims to boost connectivity and provide a smoother travel experience while featuring 14 interchanges along the way.

Mumbai-Goa Highway Completion Date

Reports stated that the highway which holds great promise faced several delays due to ongoing construction work in key towns Pali, Lanja, Kolad, Mangaon, Indapur, and Chiplun. As per officials, the work on bypasses, flyovers, and underpasses is taking longer than expected, however, it will be completed before the onset of the monsoon season.

Cost Of The Project

Originally being developed at an estimated cost of Rs 3,500 crore, the project’s total expenditure has now reportedly doubled to Rs 7,300 crore owing to delays. While the stretch between Panvel and Indrapur which is 84 -km-long is being widened by the NHAI, the remaining sections are being developed by the PWD.
