Tensions between the US and Iran escalate as US President Donald Trump warns of economic consequences against any country providing any kind of assistance to Iran. “With preparedness across land, sea, air, air defence and cyberspace, Iran’s armed forces will respond to the enemy’s new threats with crushing, punishing and devastating responses,” the chief of staff of Iran’s Armed Forces, Major General Ali Abdollahi responded.

With the continuing tensions between the US and Iran, passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz remains risky. As a result the oil supply face continued threat. The volatile energy sector is prompting the investors to resort to gold as a dependable asset.

Spot Gold also edged at $4,540.18 per ounce by 02:54 GMT following a hike of 0.5 percent.
