Gill needs to start scoring big runs again: Ex-Indian opener warns GT star ahead of PBKS encounter in IPL 15

After making a dream start for new entrants Gujarat Titans (GT) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) season 2022, premier batter Shubman Gill will be desperate to return back to scoring ways when Hardik Pandya & Co. lock horns with Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Tuesday. The Gill-starrer GT side is on verge of becoming the first team to qualify for the playoff stage of domestic cricket’s biggest extravaganza- the IPL.
Gill, who kickstarted his IPL 2022 campaign with a bang, has struggled to remain consistent with the willow as far as his last six appearances are concerned. After smashing 84 against Delhi Capitals (DC) and match-winning 96 to register Gujarat’s impressive win over Punjab Kings (PBKS), premier opener Gill has only returned with mediocre individual scores for the Pandya-led side.
Previewing Gujarat’s match against Punjab, former Indian opener Aakash Chopra issued a warning to Gill in the build-up to the IPL showdown. “Shubman Gill needs to start scoring big runs again. Gujarat are managing without big scores from him, but the selectors are watching that he is not scoring runs, which is not a good thing for him. Also, Hardik Pandya has also gone off the boil a bit. They are doing well without contributions from him, but the team will struggle in the long run if he doesn’t score,” Chopra said.
Signed by Gujarat Titans (GT) for the 15th season of the IPL 2022, former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) opener Gill has scored 260 runs from 9 matches this season. The GT opener has amassed 1677 runs from the 67 matches he has played in the cash-rich league. GT skipper Hardik Pandya is the leading run-getter for the Gujarat-based franchise this season. Pandya has scored 308 runs in 8 matches for the Gujarat giants. Gujarat Titans have picked up 16 points from 9 matches in the IPL 2022.
