Gelatin sticks found near PM Modi’s convoy route on Bengaluru outskirts, suspect in custody: What exactly happened?

Amajor security alert was reported in Bengaluru on Sunday after gelatin sticks were found near a route expected to be used by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his city visit. The explosives were discovered near Thathaguni in the Kaggalipura area, close to the road leading towards the Art of Living event venue. Police quickly reached the spot, secured the area, and began a search operation. One person has been detained, and agencies are now questioning him about the incident and possible links.

Security alert near Prime Minister’s route

The discovery created immediate concern because the location falls close to a route planned for the Prime Minister’s movement during his Bengaluru visit. Security agencies treated the matter seriously and rushed additional teams to the area. The route also connects to the Art of Living event venue, which was scheduled to host a large gathering. Following the alert, movement in the surrounding area was restricted for some time while checks were carried out.

Gelatin sticks recovered during search

During the search operation, police recovered gelatin sticks placed near a bridge beside a compound wall along the suspected route. Officials confirmed that the material was found before the Prime Minister’s convoy was due to pass through the area. Preliminary checks suggested that the explosive items may have been deliberately placed. However, investigators are still verifying the exact source and how the material reached the location.

Suspect detained and being questioned

Police detained one individual in connection with the case after he was picked up from a house near Koramangala. According to officials, the man had himself called the local police station earlier in the day, warning about possible blasts near HAL Airport and the Art of Living centre. After receiving the call, security teams launched immediate checks at both locations. While no explosives were found near HAL Airport, gelatin sticks were later discovered near the event route.

Senior officers, including a Deputy Commissioner of Police, are currently questioning the suspect. His parents have also been called in for questioning as part of the investigation.

Previous similar threat calls

Investigators said this is not the first time the man has made such calls. He was earlier detained during previous VIP visits to Bengaluru after making similar warnings. On those occasions, police released him after concluding that he appeared to be suffering from mental health issues. However, officials said the current case is being treated more seriously because actual explosive material was recovered this time.

Investigation continues

Police are now trying to find out whether the gelatin sticks were thrown by the suspect or placed by someone else. They are also checking if any other individuals were involved or if there is any organised link behind the incident. Another angle being examined is whether the act is connected to groups opposed to the Art of Living organisation.

Security agencies have confirmed that the situation was brought under control before the Prime Minister’s movement. The investigation is ongoing, and more details are expected as questioning continues.
