Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president Jagat Prakash Nadda on Sunday lauded the changes taking place in Manipur under his party’s regime and compared it with previous governments.

During an interaction with achievers and prominent celebrities at City Convention Centre in Imphal, Nadda said, “A few years back Manipur was known for politics of destruction, blockade, instability, insurgency, politics of ‘haves’ and ‘have nots’, inequality. That was being represented some 4.5 years back.”

“In Manipur, blockades were the order of the day. Asking for a good financial amount by a handful of people operating in Manipur was also the order of the day. Development was stopped and there was no process where we can say that the democratic process existed,” he added.

Lauding the BJP’s regime in Manipur, he said that today, there is a change in the state.

“From disruption to dialogue, from violence to peace, a change where through political dialogue participation of polity is there and development is taking place,” said the BJP chief.

Nadda said the BJP has to see to it that if the people want to make a development, we have to see that the society is in a congenial mode to witness the fight against the menace of drugs.

“For that also we would appreciate that the govt will take initiatives and has taken initiatives to fight against drugs,” he said concluding his speech.

Nadda earlier today inaugurated Manipur BJP’s new state party office in Imphal. The party is gearing up for the Manipur assembly polls scheduled to be held next year

The Biren Singh-led BJP unit is seeking its second term in the state.

BJP formed its first government in Manipur in 2017 with the support of National People’s Party (NPP) and Naga People’s Front (NPF). Biren Singh being sworn in as Manipur’s first-ever BJP chief minster on March 15, 2017.
