From LPG to Pension: 5 Key financial rules changing on December 1 – Check how they impact your pockets

As November comes to an end, several important government and financial deadlines are approaching. With November 30 being the last date for many required filings and pension updates, people need to complete their pending tasks quickly. Starting December 1, a new set of rules will come into effect — including changes related to pensions, taxes and fuel prices. These updates will directly impact monthly expenses, savings and essential services

Here’s what will change from December 1:

UPS deadline closes on November 30

The last date to apply for the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) is November 30. This new pension model is meant for Central Government employees who want to switch from the National Pension System (NPS). The government has already given one extension and has made it clear that the option will not reopen after December 1. Anyone who wants to move to the guaranteed-pension system must finish the process within the next two days.

Pensioners must submit life certificate by November 30

For pensioners, submitting the annual life certificate is essential to keep receiving their pension. The final date is November 30. Missing this deadline can temporarily stop pension payments. Many pensioners now use the Jeevan Pramaan digital service, but banks and post offices are still accepting certificates in person. If the certificate isn’t submitted by December 1, payments will be delayed until verification is completed.

Important tax filings due this week

Several income-tax deadlines also fall on November 30. These include TDS statements for deductions made in October under Sections 194-IA, 194-IB, 194M and 194S. Taxpayers who need to file transfer-pricing reports under Section 92E must also complete their filings by this date. Indian companies that are part of multinational groups must file Form 3CEAA by November 30. After December 1, late fees and penalties will apply.

LPG price change on December 1

Cooking gas prices will be updated on December 1, as oil companies revise LPG cylinder rates on the first day of every month. These adjustments depend on global market trends and the value of the Indian rupee. Last month, commercial LPG prices were reduced slightly. Whether households will get relief or face higher costs will be known on Sunday. This monthly price reset plays a major role in home budgets.

ATF price update also coming on December 1

Aviation turbine fuel (ATF) rates will also be revised on December 1. Any increase or decrease directly affects airline expenses and can impact air ticket prices, especially during the holiday travel season. With demand rising, even a small change in ATF costs may influence flight fares in December.
