In a bid to woo voters ahead of the Gujarat Assembly Elections, slated to be held later this year, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi made a few promises to the people of the state.
While addressing Congress’ booth-level workers at the ‘Parivartan Sankalp Rally’, he pledged to create new jobs, build English-medium schools, and provide free education to girls besides loan waiver of up to Rs 3 lakh to farmers in Gujarat if his party comes to power.
The Wayanad MP also hit out at the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, saying Gujarat has become a drug hub.
“All drugs are moved from Mundra port but your government does not take any action…This is the Gujarat model…Gujarat is one state where you’ve to take permission before protesting; permission from those against whom protest will be done,” said Gandhi at the rally held at the Sabarmati riverfront in Ahmedabad.
Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi made the following promises to the people of Gujarat if Congress gains power:
- Loan waiver of up to Rs 3 lakh to farmers in Gujarat: “The BJP government here will waive loans of top industrialists, but have you ever heard that they have waived loans of farmers?” asked Rahul Gandhi. “Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was the voice of the farmers… BJP, on the one side, makes his tallest statue and on the other side, works against people for whom he fought… if we come to power in Gujarat, we’ll waive off farmers’ debts up to Rs 3 lakhs,” he added.
- LPG cylinder at Rs 500: “Gas cylinders, which are being sold at Rs 1,000 as of now, will be given at Rs 500,” said the former Congress chief.
- Free electricity to farmers
- Up to 300 units of free power to general consumers
- Creation of 10 lakh new jobs: “I want to end unemployment… The focus will be to give employment to 10 lakh youth in Gujarat,” said Rahul Gandhi.
- Building 3,000 English-medium schools
- Free education for girls
- Rs 4 lakh compensation to families of COVID-19 victims: “After coming to power here, Congress will give Rs 4 lakh compensation to the families of the people who died during the COVID-19 pandemic,” promised Rahul Gandhi.
- Rs 5 subsidy to milk producers
