Former Sydney Sixers’ Coach Appointed As Assistant Coach For Delhi Capitals

Former Australia Womens’ coach Mathew Mott has been appointed as the new coach for the Delhi Capitals for the upcoming IPL season. Mott started his role as Sydney Sixers assistant coach under a three-year contract during September 2024. The New South Wales Blues cricket team appointed Matthew Mott as their head coach in the 2007-08 season while he had spent two years as their assistant coach. The coaching team brought success to New South Wales as they won both the Pura Cup (Sheffield Shield) in their debut season and later took the 2009 Champions League T20 trophy.

The 1st XI coach role at Glamorgan County Cricket Club began for Mott in January 2011 under a three-year contract. Glamorgan County Cricket Club stated on August 20 that year he would end his term which lasted through the 2013 season. His final season saw Glamorgan reach the Yorkshire Bank 40 final but Nottinghamshire secured victory over them.

Mott took over the Australian women’s cricket team training position from Cathryn Fitzpatrick at the beginning of March 2015. The management approved an extended contract for Mott to lead the team between 2017 through 2020. During his tenure as coach Australian women achieved victory at the T20 World Cup in 2020.

Mott took on his role leading the England national cricket team through white-ball matches during May 2022. Mott achieved a historic victory leading England’s men’s T20 team to Pakistan’s defeat in the ICC World Cup tournament that year which took place in Australia.

The coaching tenure of Mott at England ended on July 30, 2024 because his team succumbed at the India Cricket World Cup in 2023 and reached the semis when the England pack lost at the 2024 T20 World Cup in West Indies and USA. The Times and the Guardian shared information that contradicted volunteer resignation reports by stating Mott had been formally dismissed. Marcus Trescothick temporarily assumed coaching duties about the position until England cricket appointed a new head coach.
