Wicketkeeper-batter Amir Jangoo made his international debut for the West Indies on December 12 against Bangladesh in an ODI at Warner Park, Basseterre, St. Kitts. The 27-year-old from Trinidad, batting at No. 6 for the West Indies, played a remarkable knock, remaining unbeaten on 104 runs off 83 balls. His innings included 6 fours and 4 sixes. Jangoo formed key partnerships, adding 132 runs for the fifth wicket with Keacy Carty (95 runs off 88 balls) and an unbroken 91-run stand for the seventh wicket with Gudakesh Motie (44 runs off 31 balls). These contributions helped West Indies chase down a target of 322 in 45.5 overs, securing a four-wicket victory in the third ODI against Bangladesh.

In the final match of the series, Jangoo brought up his century with a six off the 80th ball of his innings. By reaching the 100-run mark, he became only the second West Indies batter, after the legendary Desmond Haynes, to score a century on ODI debut. Haynes, who finished his career with 8648 runs in 238 ODIs, had achieved the feat on his debut against Australia in St John’s on February 22, 1978, scoring 148 runs off 136 balls.

From India only KL Rahul has managed to score a century on ODI debut. He scored 100* against Zimbabwe in Harare from 115 balls in 2016.
