Ex-Australian Bowler Makes Bold Prediction For Border-Gavaskar Trophy Winner

Now that the 2024 T20 World Cup is behind us, one of the most-anticipated cricketing events of the year is the forthcoming five-match Test series between the Indian team and Australia. The 2024 Border-Gavaskar Trophy has been extended to a five-Test series that will raise the level of an already intense rivalry. But things are definitely hotter for Australia, which does not want to face a third consecutive Test series defeat to India at home.

Geoff Lawson Gives His Prediction For Border-Gavaskar Trophy

For Indian cricket fans who could hardly imagine their team winning even one solitary Test in Australia, let alone a series some years back, the present scenario is nothing short of astonishing. The Baggy Greens have not secured a series victory against India in nearly a decade. Despite winning the World Test Championship final against India last year, Australia’s last Test series win over India came during the 2014/15 season. It has been four successive 2-1 series losses since then, both home and away. In fact, Australia won Test series against India only twice since 2009.

According to Geoff Lawson, the former Australian fast bowler, it is tough to predict any outright winner for this series.

“The two teams are very evenly matched across all facets and India have the recent Down Under-winning experiences to mentally fall back on if they are under pressure,” he is quoted as saying by Mid-Day.

“Picking a winner is fraught with all sorts of peril which is exactly how the fans want this series to unfold. I’m very uncertainly going for an Australian win 3-2.”

Lawson clearly mentioned that dry conditions are expected in the Australian summer, he also suggested that there will not be many draws during the series.

“With a hot dry Australian summer predicted, I can’t see there being any draws as these two teams have an attacking penchant and the players to deliver quick runs and batting collapses. This could be the best Test series of the 21st century so far and will remind us of how Test cricket is the premium form of the game,” he said.

Border-Gavaskar Trophy Schedule

Cricket Australia has confirmed the fixtures for India’s 2024-25 Test tour of Australia. The five-match Test series will be starting with the opening Test under lights at Perth Stadium on November 22.

1st Test Perth November 22-26
2nd Test (Day/Night) Adelaide Oval December 6-10
3rd Test Brisbane December 14-18
4th Test Melbourne December 26-30
5th Test Sydney January 3-7
