‘Everyone Should Play Domestic Cricket’ – Gautam Gambhir On Importance Of Red-Ball Cricket Post BGT Debacle

Team India suffered a six-wicket loss against Australia in the fifth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and lost the series by 1-3. Australia reclaimed the Border-Gavaskar Trophy for the first time after 2017 and once again proved why they are among the most deadly sides to play at home. The Indian batting collapsed once again when it was needed the most to perform and ended up getting bowled out for 157 runs in the second innings, setting up a target of only 161 runs for the Aussies. The target wasn’t going to be enough for the Indian bowlers to defend in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, who suffered a back spasm during the first innings and didn’t come out to bowl.

Gautam Gambhir Focuses On Importance Of Domestic Cricket After BGT Debacle

Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir while speaking to the media in the post-match press conference weighed on the importance of players to play domestic cricket. GG stated that he would want all the player to play domestic cricket and not only one match, they must play more and more red-ball cricket. He said, “I would always like everyone to play domestic cricket. That’s how much importance domestic cricket needs to be given. Not only one game; if they are available and they have the commitment to play red-ball cricket, everyone should play domestic cricket as simply as it can get. If you don’t give importance to domestic cricket, you will never get the desired players you want in Test cricket.”

The comment by Gautam Gambhir looked simply for the senior players such as Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, whose techniques have been exposed by the Australian bowlers. Especially, Virat who constantly got out on the fourth stump deliveries and ended up edging the ball to first slip or wicket-keeper.
