Siraj, who shared a crease with Jadeja for more than 13 overs, spoke later of the 36-year-old’s unparalleled worth to the side, hailing him for his all-round brilliance and resilience.

Jadeja’s contribution of 72 off 131 in the first innings had already been making waves, and four fifties in a row in England have made him one of India’s most consistent batsmen in the current tour. His sword dance celebration might not have announced a victory this time, but his battle is at the heart of India’s batting prowess.
