ENG Vs IND: Gautam Gambhir Gives Strong Verdict On Ravindra Jadeja’s Innings At Lord’s, Says ‘It’s Difficult To…’

Ravindra Jadeja’s 61 off 181 balls in India’s second innings of the fourth Test at Lord’s almost brought the visitors to a historic victory. But in a tragic end, Mohammed Siraj’s dismissal sealed a narrow 22-run win for England, who now lead the five-match series 2-1. In spite of the defeat, Jadeja’s fighting knock was in the limelight across the globe, though a few Indian cricket greats, Anil Kumble, Sunil Gavaskar, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Sourav Ganguly believed that the all-rounder should have been more determined during the run chase.

India’s Loss At Lords

India’s pursuit of a humble 193 fell apart spectacularly under relentless pressure from England’s pace attack, led by Jofra Archer and captain Ben Stokes. By the end of Day 4, India (visitors) was already struggling with a score of 58/4. Things became even worse early on the last day as Archer and Stokes romped through the middle order, leaving India at 112/8.

Ravindra Jadeja: The Sole Warrior For India

Jadeja batted on with great calmness, making key stands with Jasprit Bumrah and then Mohammed Siraj. Bumrah defended for 22 overs, adding only five runs off 54 balls before getting out to a mis-hit caught by Sam Cook. Jadeja was left with the responsibility to chase himself, but the last nail was driven when Shoaib Bashir bowled out Siraj, putting an end to India’s aspirations. While Siraj knelt on the ground, Jadeja remained stranded in shock at 61 not out.

Gautam Gambhir’s Praise For Jadeja

“That was an incredible fight. The fight from Jaddu, that was absolutely brilliant,” Gautam Gambhir told Jadeja

Following the loss, the BCCI posted a clip showing an unguarded moment between Gautam Gambhir and Jadeja. Contrary to some among the critics, Gambhir was replete with admiration for Jadeja’s grit and talent in pressure situations. Siraj, who shared a crease with Jadeja for more than 13 overs, spoke later of the 36-year-old’s unparalleled worth to the side, hailing him for his all-round brilliance and resilience.

“As a team, as a player, Jaddu bhai is extraordinary in the fielding, in bowling, in batting, he has improved in everything.”

“He makes runs in every important situation for the team. It is difficult to find a player like him for our team. We are lucky to have such a player in our team,” he concluded.

Jadeja’s contribution of 72 off 131 in the first innings had already been making waves, and four fifties in a row in England have made him one of India’s most consistent batsmen in the current tour. His sword dance celebration might not have announced a victory this time, but his battle is at the heart of India’s batting prowess.
