Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday said that one lakh grenades were manufactured at the private defence company Economic Explosives Limited (EEL) while speaking at the handing over ceremony of Made in India multi-mode grenades to the Indian Army in Nagpur, Maharashtra.

“I am delighted that the production was approved in March 2021 and within five months more than one lakh grenades have been manufactured even when the second wave of Covid-19 was going on and the entire system had come to a standstill. These grenades have been manufactured by the private sector. I think this is a great example of a public-private partnership in defence sector,” he said at the ceremony.

The defence minister also said that the Defence Production and Export Promotion Policy 2020 draft has been issued and expressed confidence over it.

“In a big step, for the first time the Defence Ministry has issued a draft of Defence Production and Export Promotion Policy 2020. I’m confident that this policy will be helpful in attaining annual turnover of Rs 1,75,000 crore by 2025,” he said.

“This policy will not only enhance our strength but also provide a roadmap to Indian Defence manufacturing, I am confident.”

Meanwhile, an official of the Ministry of Home Affairs said that for the first time, the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) in India are to be equipped with Bureau of Indian Standard (BIS) marked Level-5 bullet resistance jackets by September end. The move of the central government was in line with PM Narendra Modi’s ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ vision, the MHA official said.
