The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced by-elections to one Lok Sabha seat and four assembly constituencies across Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and West Bengal will be held on April 12.
The parliamentary seat which will go under polling is West Bengal’s Asansol, while the Assembly seats going for by-elections are Ballygunge in West Bengal, Khairagarh in Chhattisgarh, Bochahan in Bihar and Maharashtra’s Kolhapur North. The poll body has decided to hold these bypolls to fill vacant seats.
As per the schedule, the date of issuing gazette notification is March 17 and the last date of nominations is March 24. The last date of scrutiny of nomination is March 25 and the candidature can be withdrawn till March 28.The date of polling will be April 12 and the votes will be counted on April 16.
In the schedule, the Commission stated to complete the election process on or before April 18.
The Asansol parliamentary seat in West Bengal fell vacant after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) lawmaker Babul Supriyo resigned from the party and joined the Trinamool Congress.
