Don’t eat ball, eat food if you are hungry: Virender Sehwag takes a dig at Williamson’s SRH over loss to DC

Kane Williamson’s Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) side was castigated for their batting disasterclass by legendary opener Virender Sehwag after the 2016 champions recorded a heavy trounce at the hands of Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals (DC) in match No.33 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 on Wednesday. Dominant Delhi Capitals thrashed Sunrisers Hyderabad by 8 wickets to reclaim the top spot on the IPL 2021 points table.

Even though Hyderabad giants brought in former skipper David Warner back into the playing XI, the Williamson-led side failed to pile up runs against the fast bowling duo of Anrich Nortje and Kagiso Rabada at the Dubai International Stadium. While Warner recorded his first duck in the IPL since 2016, skipper Williamson played a sluggish knock of 18 off 26 balls.

‘Maaro mujhe…maaro mujhe, ball would have said to SRH’

Taking a dig at the Sunrisers Hyderbad after a batting no-show by Williamson and Co. against Delhi Capitals, Sehwag hilariously advised the franchise batsmen to avoid eating balls in a T20 contest.  “As Harshad Mehta had said be it market or cricket the biggest risk is not taking any risk. But Hyderabad was playing so sluggishly that even the ball would have said this to them in agony – ‘Maro mujhe…maaro mujhe.’ Is ball something to eat that too in T20? Don’t eat the ball. If you are hungry, eat food,” Sehwag said on Virugiri Dot Com.

Following a top-order batting collapse, SRH were rescued by Abdul Samad (28) and Rashid Khan (22) before the death overs. Laggards Hyderabad only managed to post 134-9 after batting first against the Delhi Capitals. Delhi Capitals star batsmen Shikhar Dhawan (42) and Shreyas Iyer (47) played crucial knocks to make sure the Ricky Ponting-coached side register a massive 8-wicket win over Hyderabad. With the convincing win, Delhi replaced Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as the table-toppers in the IPL 2021 standings on Thursday.
