Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), which operates the capital’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA), on Monday said that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Medanta Hospital to set up a dedicated covid care centre at Terminal 2. The facility will be managed by DIAL under the medical supervision of Medanta Hospital.

The facility is being set up with various necessary healthcare facilities for the airport’s employees and their family members, including children, ahead of an impending third wave of the pandemic, DIAL said in a statement. The healthcare centre will help isolate, treat, support asymptomatic, mild, and mild to moderate covid positive employees or their family members, till they are transferred to a hospital or discharged to their homes, it added.

“Under this arrangement, DIAL will handle day-to-day operational issues, while Medanta will provide all medical support to this centre, including supervision of medical personnel, treatment protocols, patient care, support for pathology, microbiology and radiology, emergency evacuation and admission of critically ill patients at their facility, etc,” DIAL said. The centre will be operational by September.

“A total of 15 Pediatric High Dependency Unit (HDU) beds, 18 Adult HDU beds and 52 Isolation beds have been allotted at this centre. Besides, 85 oxygen concentrators have been arranged here,” it further said.

Meanwhile, in view to enhance passenger experience, Delhi Airport has also launched “Avaan Excess” Baggage Delivery services at Terminal 3 Check-in Area. Avaan Excess is powered by logistics company GATI to provide Excess Baggage Delivery service to passengers travelling from Terminal 3 for delivering baggage to all locations across India.

The price for the service starts from Rs 100/kg. Passengers can choose the delivery by Air (Air delivery within 72 Hours) and deliver by road period (road delivery within 4-7 days). Passengers can avail this service by booking excess baggage order at the counter at Terminal 3 of Delhi Airport by all departing Passengers (for India-wide delivery).

In order to avail this facility, passengers have to reach Avaan counter and share details of the excess baggage. The baggage is scanned in presence of the passenger and cleared by security. The boarding pass is scanned and then payment is made. Booking receipt along with notification over phone/email is shared with passenger.

Passengers can relax and go ahead to board their flight. The bag will be delivered to the destination within the committed timelines
